Evaluation Of Awaaz Community Video

Brief- To design a promotional video for Awaaz.

What was the purpose of the video?

As part as our brief we were asked to pick a group from the Redbridge CVS forum which consisted of Awaaz, Redbridge Faith Forum, Music Lounge and BASIS. The overall concept was to create a promotional video about the organisation we picked. So within the video it had to contain certain aspects such as; interviews, images, video clips, voice overs, background music, titles and other things to make the video engaging to the audience. We had to pick an organisation and my group picked Awaaz 'The voice of asian and minority ethnic women.' So our video was based on what the organisation was about, what they represented and how they was formed. The video we made had to sum up Awaaz and to help them become more known for the work they do.The purpose of the video was to inform the public about the organisation Awaaz and help there branch grow and develop.

Different Production Stages:
Pre Production: Before making the video and filming it we had a lot of preperation to do prior to the practical side of things. We had to do the following things to make the video good and to make sure we understood the charity we picked. We needed to know what we needed to contain in the video and who we were aiming it at.
The pre-production stuff consisted of:
- Watching previous promotional video's and seeing what made the video's good and bad and getting own feedback on the videos. This was to help us know what to contain in our video's.
- Searching up extra information about the organisation before meeting them so we had an understanding of who we were working with prior to the recordings.
- Understanding what they do as an organisation.
- Arranging meet ups to do interviews and filming.
- To meet the organises of the companies to talk to them.
- Look through the archive footage we received from Awaaz.
Pre Production
Production:
Once meeting up with the chair and founder of Awaaz, we then decided to go and interview the people apart of Awaaz to find out how Awaaz has helped them. We thought clearly about what questions we wanted to ask them.We needed to know what information they wanted in their promotional video. We met up with Awaaz and recorded the interviews, we also recorded Awaaz members taking part in there weekly dance class. We also astracted images from their website to make the overall video more engaging instead of just having video clips with text. Once we got all the footage we wanted we decided what footage to use and put together. After we put the filming on the computer we decided to do voice overs making it more easier for the video to flow instead of heaving stop and start with texts. We wrote a script so we knew what to say when we was recording our voices. We took notes from watching the pervious videos and thought the video flows more with a voice over rather than titles and texts. Overall the production consisted of:
- Filming everything(interviews/ physical classes)
- Abstracting images from their website.
- Recording mine and Karens voices for the voice over.
- Finding the background music that fitted with the type of video.
- We had to make sure the video we was producing  was to the standards they wanted and met the target purpose which was to promote their charity.
Production
Post Production:
Once uploading all the footage we gathered from filming and footage we got given. We then decided what parts of footage we wanted to use in the video. We started to make our frist edit of the video for Awaaz. When Maddie came she told us what we needed to add and what we need to do to make the video better. The editing consist of:
- Estracting the music from the video clips and only hearing the background music.
- Making a clear order of the video.
- Cuttting down the interviews to avoid making the audience bored.
- Fading in and out from point to point whether it was from pictures or videos.
- To add the voice over the video's and images.
- To add titles before watching the interviews.
- To make sure the sound overall went for example when you can hear the voice over making sure the background music.
Post Production

Problems we recieved before, whilst and after filming.
Pre-Post Problems:
The problems we faced before recording (practical) was the arrangments. The arrangements were a problem because Awaaz had most of there meetings and activities whilst we got sixth form so it was hard to get down to them and do a good amount of recordings. However, we solved this problem by going down to them on a saturday and we got to record them doing a dance session. We also had a chance to leave sixth form early and go and do some interviews. So the two times we got to meet up with them we had to get a decent amount of footage filmed.
Production Problems:
The first problem that happened whilst filming was the interviews. This was a major problem due to the noice, it was very hard to interview member of Awaaz because you could clearly here the background noice. Also when we was interviewing the members of Awaaz spoke very quiet and it was hard for the camera to pick up here voice. We solved this problem when we edited the video clips we couldn't extract the background sound but we could turn the volumn up for the people getting interviewed which made it more easy to understand what they were saying.
The second problem that happened whilst the production time was when my group had the chance to go down to there dance sessions we had alot of women who did not want to get filmed. This was a weakness for us when recording because we did not get informed prior to the recording we only got told on the day when setting up the camera, this was hard for us because we had to record one side which did not look as great as it could of. We solved this problem by getting the people that did not want to be filmed to stand on one side and we had to change the angle of the shots so they were not in the video clips.

Post Production Problems
The first problem we recieved after the filming had been done was the editing, we found that most of the archive footage we recieved previously had alot of panelling so we did not have many video's to put into the overall video. We solved this problem by getting the video we orignally wanted but had to much panelling in it. Then we created 6 still images from the video to make it look more engaging.
The other problem we recieved was the feedback we got from Maddie was hard to solve. She asked us to add titles over the images and interviews instead of having the title before. We did not solve this problem but just made the titles shorter so it was still engaging.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Pre-Production Strengths & Weaknesses:
The strengths- We had overall at the pre-production was good comunication. As a group we kept in contact with each other outside of sixth form to make sure that we got to our destination on time and together to make us look proffesional. The strengths we had as a team were that we was good at communicating with the =the former of Awaaz. My personal strength was when we had to interview Bushra, I feel I got alot of information needed through the questions that I asked. this was my strength because by us finding out everything helped us not just to understand the charity more but to give us more idea's of what textual information we could put in the video.
The Weaknesses- The Pre-Production was that we didn't have a lot of time to meet up with the charity because of Sixth Form and the days they had their meetings and drop in days we had Sixth form this was a weakness because we didn't manage to get enough footage. Overall we only got a couple of interviews filmed and one sessiom of dance which didn't go to plan because of some Awaaz members did not want to be filmed.
Production Strengths & Weaknesses:
The Strengths- My personal strength was the use of the camera, when we was filming I picked up the techniques quickly and was able to record. When I started recording most of the camera angles were good and the filming I done got put in to the final edited promotional video. The other strength we had whilst filming was our contribution when we was filming everyone put in idea's and gave critics to the footage that wasn't that good so we could improve it. This was a strength because by working as a team and everyone giving their input helped the video come out better.
The Weaknesses- The main weakness within the production was finding the music because as a team we disagreed a lot of the time. Also it was hard to find the write song because we got told that we had to take the volumn of the dancing video because it was known as copy right. Then we had to find another song as the background soundtrack.
Post Production strength & Weaknesses:
Strengths-The main strength was our organisation as a group because when we got to do the editing we assigned each person to a specific area so Karen done the voice over and basic editing, I done the voice over and graphics then Billy done the music. This was a strength because we all knew what he had to do by a certain time which made the final editing easier to finish.
Weaknesses- The main weakness we had were our final editing. Basically when Maddie came in she gave us a list of things to improve to make the video better and we did not get to do all the edits she wanted because for example the sound she wanted the background of the ionterview cut out and we could not do that because we recoreded the interview on the camera not the voive recoreder.

Opinions of the finished product:
My opinion of the final product would be that it is good however there could have been many improvements if we had more time. Overall I like everything we done the only things I would change was I would have organise to do more filming and done the interviews in a more quiet place. The video is good overall for what the brief was we put all the information in there that they asked for. The video is not to long and boring the images and video's make the video more engaging howvere the interview still seem a bit too long so it would have beeb good if we cut the interviews up intop sections and put them throughout the video instead in just one place for a long time.
